Having practice veterinary medicine for over 15 years, I very quickly became disillusioned by my inability to truly heal. With a thirst to improve the quality of care I could provide my patients, I began a journey over 10 years ago looking for other ways to heal. I learned the animal adjusting technique, Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation ™, and suddenly my professional life turned around as I began to truly bring back a greater quality of life to the animals in my care. This also brought back a quality of life to the families of these companions. As I felt I had “mastered” that, I then looked out onto the horizon for other methods of healing that could take my current knowledge even farther. I studied homeopathy, homotoxicology and  acupuncture. I extended my classical education in nutrition to include herbal and whole food supplemental therapies. I studied sound wave therapies and brought that into my practice. With each step, I was always in search of how to heal better, longer, deeper, farther. And this last step, that of Veterinary Cold Laser, has brought a whole new exciting level of care to my patients, a way to improve health when all other modalities have reached their limits.

The practice of “cold laser” has been around for over 40 years, with its beginning in the study of how the body’s cells communicated using light. This premise and theory has been around for over one hundred years. L.A.S.E.R. actually stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission Rays, a means of directing highly concentrated coherent light at a concise wavelength to the muscles, tissues, organs, connective tissue, formed elements of the blood, and the living matrix of the body to direct all aspects of healing, growth, regulation of metabolism, and general cell survival. This happens naturally in the body every minute of our lives, but as toxins, disease, poor diet and even genetics and aging take hold of our bodies, these tightly controlled communications begin to fail as the tissues change right down to the DNA.

While I do believe that one still must feed the body better, detoxify the body, and restore neurologic and vascular balance to the body first, I feel that we can then rehabilitate the poor functioning cells back to more optimal or even maximal health and get our healing to an even higher, sustained level of health. My philosophy has always been that while each modality will have its strongest effects, each also has its limitations and therefore the true “magic” to healing is to combine the right things together for each individual based on details of their health, life and history. No one therapy is the cure for everything…But the Cold Laser is close!

Having learned the single coherent light wavelength that the body communicates with (632.819 nm), and having mapped out the specific frequency each tissue “pulses” that frequency at, the cold laser allows us to “dial in” to the body’s natural communication process. This artificial production of the cell’s natural wavelength and frequency gives us the ability to emulate the exact methodology that the cells themselves would use to heal themselves.

While we are all familiar with DNA on tv crime shows (little strands laid out in rows); in the living cell, the DNA more resembles a ball of yarn. The strands on the outside are accessible and can be replicated to make the protein products that provide the “purpose” of each cell. This might be coding for insulin in a special cell in the pancreas or for a protein to build cartilage but whatever it is, it is the reason that cell exists. If forces and stresses act on the DNA “ball” it can be rotated and the available surface strands can change, thereby cutting off  the production of the life sustaining product of that cell, thereby producing “disease” or “dysfunction” of the tissue to a larger and larger degree as more cells go through this transition. By bombarding the cells with the exact wavelength at the correct frequency (specific to that tissue) you can return the cellular DNA to its original structure, re-establishing production and balance to the cell, the tissue and the body as a whole.

Low Level Laser has been used therapeutically around the world for over 40 years with over two thousand professional literature publications written sighting  NO SIDE EFFECTS!!! This therapy has been receiving FDA approval for ever increasing uses in the last decade with no end in sight. But, like all things in life, there are harmful ways to use, or more properly stated, misuse lasers. Of course, we are all probably familiar with the “hot” lasers used for surgery and cauterization. Those laser wavelengths and frequencies are intentionally set for cellular destruction. Low Level Lasers can also be misused and injure cellular DNA by inputting too much energy into a tissue in one treatment. Cellular integrity can be maintained and healing stimulus applied as long as the energy does not exceed 10 joules/cm2 . With the multitude of lasers available, each practitioner carefully chooses what is to be accomplished by its use. Class four lasers are very high powered and can deliver 10 joules/cm2 in fractions of a second, while Class 3 and 3a lasers typically need over 10 minutes to deliver this amount of energy. This may be more than the average client needs to know but you should always know enough to ask about a therapy before you use it or speak with a practitioner who can explain it to a level that you can understand and gain a trust in the practitioner’s experience. There are many lasers out there marketed to practitioners that are technically a laser but don’t meet the specifics for this type of cellular repair. That is not to say that there are not many other uses for laser that these other lasers perform.

It is interesting to note, that the healing modality of Low Level Laser, like many other “alternative” or “holistic” therapies, follow the rules established hundreds of years ago in the discovery of homeopathy. These rules state that strong stimulus ablates cell function, while weak stimulus stimulates and balances cell functions.

Feel free to research this topic yourself. www.dr-trish.com is my website with some basic information on it. www.Erchonia.com is the website for the only laser that has done double blind studies and proved efficacy and achieved FDA approval.  And just looking up low level laser or cold laser can lead to more information.

Thank You.
